A National Park Perk for Seniors

Senior Park Pass

Here is a travel and entertainment perk that all senior citizens, regardless of where you live, should consider. Courtesy of Uncle Sam, you can purchase a lifetime pass to all National parks for $10, if you obtain it at a Federal recreation site.

Ordering it through the mail will cost you $20, due to handling fees.  This method could take up to 15 days.

The lifetime pass will give you access to more than 2,000 recreation sites.  It also may provide as much as a 50% discount on Federal use fees charged for camping, swimming, boat launching, parking and tours.

The lifetime pass replaces the old Golden Age Passports.  However, the old Passports will be honored when presented.

All United States citizens and permanent residents, aged 62 and over, are eligible for the lifetime pass.  If you are traveling by car, the pass will admit all passengers in your vehicle, regardless of age.

Several years ago, 3 senior friends and I drove from Florida to visit several Western states.  Those free-admission passes came in very handy when we stopped at Zion National Park in Utah and a couple of other National parks in Utah, Texas and Colorado.

If you lose your lifetime pass or it is stolen, you will have to replace it at your own expense.  However, if it is damaged, any place that issues the pass will replace it for you as long as the identification on it is legible.

With all that our country’s National parks have to offer, this is quite a nice deal for senior citizens.  Florida alone has several unique National parks, so finding one within driving distance shouldn’t be difficult.  All Floridians are familiar with the Everglades National Park and not far from there is Big Cypress National Preserve.  In the Northeastern part of the state is the Timucuan Ecological & Historical Preserve.  Further South, you’ll find Canaveral National Seashore and Biscayne National Park.

Check out the list of Federal recreation sites via the link above and get your lifetime pass today!
