According to the FDA release, the affected dry food could potentially contain elevated levels of vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential to the dog’s development, but too much vitamin D could lead to serious health issues.
Vitamin D toxicity includes vomiting, loss of appetite, weight loss, excessive drooling, increased thirst and increased urination. Pet owners were told to immediately stop using the product and dispose of it where no animals can reach it.
The FDA became aware of only a small number of dogs affected by high levels of vitamin D and issued the recall as a precaution while more investigation takes place.
