My friend, Victoria, called today and proved in our conversation that she is no weeping willow. She is a mighty oak in a ninety-pound body.  This is her story we are telling.  How many of us would have the courage?

“When Gavin and I broke up, he could not wait to text Joanne, a client, and tell her what happened. He hoped to find a new date (translate that into target) as he used Joanne to find him dates. Not that he needed her.  He used her to legitimize him.  Joanne called me to report their communication. We agreed to meet for coffee and she brought a friend, Connie, along.

“While waiting for our coffee, we examined our various relationships with Gavin, and quickly discovered he dated Connie while we were ‘engaged’.  She had no idea he was engaged and she proved to be but one of a line of women in his life while he posed as my fiancé.

I conceived the idea of a Club for the Conned and my other two co-conspirators quickly came on board. We refused to be victims, to bury ourselves in our sorrows over Gavin, the worm. Instead, we agreed to get the word out to other women, maybe all over the country, to pull them out of their doldrums after being caught in a fraud or conned by a man.  Don’t get me wrong, we did not become men haters.  We did, however, become con men haters.

“We thought lifting single women, whether through healthy chats, providing physical needs such as clothing to aid in job interviews or furniture, linens, etc., to furnish a home, would provide us with a healthy state of mind, too.

“When I arrived home, I called two other women I knew to be associated with Gavin. Louise worked for him during Gavin and Glenda’s engagement. Glenda happened to be Louise’s sister. When he broke their engagement, Louise grew angrier and angrier as more women came through the office. She figured, rightly, that he hit on them, using them as he had her sister.

“I will meet with Louise and Glenda on Saturday to invite them to join the Club for the Conned.

“As stated earlier in another part of this brief saga, I also contacted the State and discovered the Investigators are very interested in anything Gavin has done to defraud women as they had a growing list. I do not think any of us will be wall flowers when it comes to helping lend the State a hand.”

My admiration for Victoria has never been in question. Awed by her ability to rise like a phoenix from the hurt and pain Gavin inflicted on her, I can only write her story and maybe feel a little pity for the fool who thought she would go quietly into the night.

Originally this was to be told in three parts; however, as the story continues to unfold, we can only tell the story of a courageous woman who refuses to give up.
