What’s Good about Growing Older?

Some would say there is nothing good about aging but, folks, it’s a fact of life.  You can’t stop the clock! And if you can’t stop it, you might as well embrace it and give it your all. With a positive mindset, you can come up with many reasons why growing older is good. So when you feel “down” and pessimistic about your age, read over the following suggestions to perk up your mood. I found that there are many good things about my current age and perhaps you will enjoy them, as well.

*I no longer feel I have to conform to certain dress standards.  I don’t work outside my home, so I don’t have to dress a certain way. I don’t have to wear high heels. If I don’t feel like putting on makeup, so what!

*Looks aren’t everything.  I accept my wrinkles, the little “wings” under my upper arms. I earned each and every one of them.

*I don’t have the anxiety of years ago. I have learned to accept decisions my children make, even when I know they are wrong and will end up biting them in the behind. They have to make their way through life, just as I did.

*I choose better friends and value the old ones still in my life. When we are young, we tend to take friendships for granted. The older I get and the more friends I lose to death, the better I understand how very important those friendships are, that they are to be nurtured, cherished and held close.

*I don’t feel pressured to do what others want.  In fact, I don’t have to pretend to like what others do. I can be myself.

*I don’t much care what others think or do.  I accept the fact that I can only control my own behavior, thoughts, actions. I find it much easier to live and let live than when I was young.

*Senior discounts!  How did we live without those? Let’s see, one day each week I can go to Senior Day at Beall’s and shop my heart out; I can whip out my senior discount card at Beall’s Outlet for even more bargains. I don’t hesitate to ask for my senior discount at fast food places. You’d be amazed at the money you can save just by being over 55 or 60.

*Grandkids!  They add so much love and fun to our lives, and I never tire of them.

*I lost my fear of flying.  When my children were home, I did not like to fly. So much so, that Jim and I took separate flights on trips. Now that I am no longer responsible for my children, I find that flying is fun and so much easier than long car trips.

*I can’t get pregnant!  No explanation needed.
